I played ball from Jr. High to league sponsored teams when I was in my 20s. I followed the game until the egos just turned me completely off.
I was never upset with the steroid issue because Congress wanted to ex post facto the players when such use wasn't illegal, so it was more posturing by Congress than by the pros.
Pete Rose was pro sports biggest let down; Michael Vick says he didn't know he was breaking the law and I believe he is just that stupid, Rose on the other hand is probably a genius.
I have to say, those players who took it when it was not illegal cannot really be blamed? How can we say they cheated when the stuff was legal? We may have thought it sould have been illegal - I know I did - but we can hardly blame them for taking it if it was.
Pete Rose is an interesting case. Every year the debate continues about whether he should be in the Hall of Fame. I think he would be if he would come clean, admit to all that he did, and beg MLB for forgiveness. But I doubt Rose will do this.
It is an interesting issue, does talent alone matter for the Hall? Or is integrity and honesty a must? Ty Cobb is in the Hall, so assholes can surely be in! But I think the issue is, of course, honesty with respect to the game.
Comments from many different points of view are welcome. But I will not publish any comments that are hateful, insulting, or filled with profanity. I welcome and encourage dialogue and disagreement but will not publish any hate speech.
